Appeal for Support  for Flood Affectees in Pakistan  at a Charity Bazzar in Malaysia.
Islamabad; August 8, 2010

The Acting High Commissioner for Pakistan, Dr. Imtiaz A. Kazi, has made a passionate appeal to a large number of  well to do Malaysian and Pakistani expatriates to provide  generous humanitarian assistance to more than 12 million flood affectees in various parts of Pakistan, says a press release received from Malaysia here today.

He said this while addressing a large gathering of well-to-do Malaysian and Pakistani Expatriates in a Charity Bazaar held under the auspicious of Association of Pakistan Women in Malaysia, (APWM)  in Kuala Lumpur, today.

The Acting High Commissioner said that in Pakistan, the unprecedented floods have affected all four provinces of Pakistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Northern Areas,  had displaced 12 million people including 1.4 million children and had destroyed 0.25 million houses.

He said that although Government of Pakistan had employed all its resources to alleviate the suffering of the affectees, but the scale and enormity of the crisis required the mobilization of entire international community to assist the Pakistan Government in providing humanitarian assistance both in cash and kind to the flood victims.

He appealed all the Malaysian in general and Pakistani Expatriates in particular to come forward and make generous donation to alleviate the suffering of flood affectees which can be both in Cash and kinds.

He said that  the Pakistan High Commission has opened a saving account No. 20-002063910-9  at the  Affin Bank  with head of account “PRIME MINISTER’S FLOOD RELIEF FUND 2010” for provision of assistance in cash.

The donors who desired to provide assistant in kind can contact M/S Abda Aviation (Focal Cargo Agency for transporting Relief Goods to Pakistan free of charge). CONDOLENCE  MESSAGE.

Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira and Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Syed Sumsam Ali Bukhari have expressed sorrow over the sad demise of the mother of veteran journalists Haji Nawaz Raza of Nawa-e-Waqt and Tariq Sumair of INP who died last night.
The Ministers prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in peace and grant her jannat-ul-firdous.
They also prayed to Allah to grant the family courage to bear this irreparable loss.

The crises Communication cell set up by the Press Information Department at Islamabad and Peshawar has been approached by different people and affectees from various part of the country. In last twenty four hours many calls about flood situation, rain, emergency relief, and provision of water food were received from different areas.

Mr. Ghulam Abbas called from District Miawali and asked for emergency evacuation of few persons who were siege by flood water of river Indus.

Mr. Amir called from Nowshehra District that few people affected by flood are waiting for relief of food and water.

Four calls were received from Jehlum, Jhang, Miawali, Sargodha asking about flood and river situation in the area.

The crises cell informed National Disaster Management Authority in time to resolve the problems and difficulties faced by the affectees.
